Biography

Charles Kirk, AKA PENBOA, learnt the classical guitar from the age of 6 going on to play the trumpet and piano. From an early age he was interested in composing music. In the 1990s he became interested in electronic dance music and in 1998 he started creating atmospheric electronic music. The early tracks were predominantly trance, but his style quickly evolved and diversified to include chill-out tracks. He now plays Soprano Saxophone and Synthesizers.

An interest in writing music for Modern Ballet, Contemporary Dance and Film led him to diversify the output further. Current output ranges from chill-out pieces through electronica (including fast tempo trance tracks). Sound design is an important aspect of his sound, with each track almost entirely comprised of sounds created on various synthesisers specifically for the piece often with vocal elements. Tracks have been used for Fashion Shows, Contemporary Dance and Modern Ballet.

Inspiration comes from a wide range of sources including: contemporary electronic and dance music, producers such as Enigma, classical composers such as Mahler and Stravinsky and various Jazz recordings. He believes it is important for composers to absorb and internalise what has been done before in order to be able to create something original and new.
